Bernardus is an Indonesian urbanist, explorer and impact investor. He is the Chairman and founder of Nusa Citieslab, a leading urbanization and metropolitan governance advocacy group based in Indonesia. From 2022-2025, he was the first CEO of the Rebana Metropolitan Management Agency in West Java, Indonesia’s largest and most promising economic corridor with over 10 million population, working under Governors Kamil, Machmudin, and later Mulyadi.

He is the Trade Advisor to the government of New Zealand envoys in South East Asia. He also sits as a Board member of several listed companies in Indonesia. Bernardus is the founding Shareholder and Managing Director of Smart City Orchestra Ltd, a Japanese technology and smart city company based in Tokyo. He is also the founder of a bio-conversion and organic waste management start-up, AAL-Bio.

Bernardus has had 35 years of professional experience in both the private and public sectors and is an expert in infrastructure financing, urban planning and development, and public-private partnerships (PPP). He has held senior management and equity partner positions with major international financial advisory firms including PwC, Deloitte, and EY. He has also served as advisor to major corporations, ministries, foreign and national governments, governors, and mayors.

An urban planner by background, Bernardus is a Member of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP). He is the National Chair of the Planning Ethics Board of the Indonesian Association of Urban and Regional Planners (IAP), and currently sits on the Advisory Board of the School of Architecture, Planning & Policy Development at the Bandung Institute of Technology.

Bernardus is the Founder and co-creator of the Indonesian Most Liveable City Index, a perception-based survey measuring the liveability of Indonesian cities since 2009 in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Urban and Regional Planners.
